Mac's Tournament: Edmonton SSAC Athletics Win Male Division

1/1/2011

The 2010 Mac’s Tournament saved the best game of the tournament for last. A late third period flurry by the Saskatoon Contacts wasn’t enough as the Edmonton SSAC BP Athletics defeated the Contacts 3-2 to win the 2010 Mac’s Midget Tournament. Adam Tambellini led the way for the Athletics as he scored a natural hat-trick to give his team a 3-0 lead before the end of the second period. It was all Edmonton up to that point as they outshot the Contacts 27-19 going into the third. The Contacts still had their chances, hitting three posts in the 1st period. The third period was a different story as the Contacts dominated outshooting the Athletics 22-2 with 5 PP opportunities. The Contacts capitalized on two of the chances with goals from Kohl Bauml and Nick Eliason but in the end it wasn’t enough. Athletics goaltender, Curtis Honey made key saves at key times as the total shot clock favoured the Contacts, 41-29. Honey was named Tournament MVP. The Athletics went through the tournament undefeated.
