"Goals live on the other side of obstacles and challenges. Be relentless in pursuit of those goals, especially in the face of obstacles. Along the way, make no excuses and place no blame." - Ray Bourque
As The Mac's marks its 39th year, the Tournament Committee and Mac's Convenience Stores will recognize hockey's role in building leaders. This game provides the opportunity to learn important leadership skills through hard work, tenacity, teamwork, and of course, having fun. These experiences enable the players to grow confidence in themselves to become leaders. Some of those players become captain. Some of them become coaches, and even more of these players become leaders in their community.
"True leaders don't create followers, they create more leaders. Mac's Convenience Stores believes strongly in this year's theme of #TheMacsBuildingLeaders and that the incredible youth in this tournament are tomorrow's leaders both on and off the ice. This is why we continue to support and promote this tournament," says Dayna Palmer, Marketing Manager for Mac's Convenience Stores, Western Division. "In addition, we want to thank the fantastic committee and numerous volunteers who step up as leaders and guide this tournament to an incredible experience for everyone each year."
Leadership is a social influence. A leader embodies admirable qualities that are attained through the pursuit of excellence. Leaders are able to accomplish common goals using uncommon skill. Their charisma, ability, work ethic, and passion are part of what makes a leader.
During the seven days of competition between December 26, 2016 and January 1, 2017, follow along on social media #TheMacsBuildingLeaders where we will share profiles of past Mac's alumni plus current team members, volunteers, and team community to highlight their exceptional contributions.
